Sudan to keep vital crossing border point with Chad open for humanitarian aid

Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - The Government of Sudan on Tuesday said it is extending the opening of a crossing point with Chad for the passage of humanitarian aid until the end of the year.

The Adre border crossing point has been vital in ferrying food and humanitarian aid to millions of people, including in areas under the control of the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been fighting the national army for more than two years.

The current permission expired at the end of last month.

A statement by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the government decided to “extend the opening of the Adre border crossing on the Sudanese-Chadian border for humanitarian aid, facilitated by international relief organisations, as from September 1st, until the 31st of December 2025”.

This step, statement said, affirms the government's commitment to ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those in need throughout Sudan.

The statement stated that the extension of the Adre border crossing coincided with the landslide disaster in the twon of Tarsain in Jebel Marra, which claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians.

"While the Government of Sudan mourns the loss of the citizens, it looks forward to brotherly and friendly countries and humanitarian organisations to accelerate the provision of the required assistance to the citizens and to taking advantage of the extension of the Adre border crossing to redouble efforts to meet urgent needs in the region, in coordination with the relevant state agencies," it said.
