Benghazi, Libya (PANA) - Officials of Libya's eastern-based government and Sudan have met to discuss modalities of the voluntary return programme for Sudanese expatriates residing and displaced in Libya.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan government installed in the east, Abdulhadi Al-Huwaij, and the Consul General of Sudan, Abdulrahman Mohamed Rahmatullah, discussed the modalities, according to a statement published on Wednesday by the ministry.
The meeting was part of the strengthening of coordination and follow-up to previous meetings between the two parties.
The statement said the Consul General presented in detail the steps and procedures currently being implemented, including the electronic recording mechanism, thanks to which more than 50,000 Sudanese expatriates wishing to return to their country have registered. The registration will continue until 25 September.
It said the meeting complements the efforts made in the framework of cooperation between the Libyan government and the General Consulate of the Republic of Sudan in Benghazi, affirming the common commitment to the success of the voluntary return programme.
