Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - The Sudanese Presidency has congratulated the national team for making it to the semi-finals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament after beating Algeria in a dramatic shoot-out in Zanzibar on Saturday.
In a press releasse issued on Saturday, the head of the Sudanese collective Presidency Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan said: "I am pleased to extend my warmest congratulations and sincere felicitations to the national football team on their well-deserved qualification in this African Championship."
General Al Burhan added that ‘’this great achievement embodies the spirit of determination and perseverance and reflects the strong will of Sudanese youth to raise the nation's flag high in regional and international forums".
He affirmed his “full support” for sports and athletes, wishing the team further victories in the competition.
Sudan advanced to the semi-finals after edging Algeria 4-2 on penalties, setting up a last-four meeting with Madagascar on Tuesday.
The Falcons of Jediane held their nerve in the shoot-out at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar after a 1-1 draw across 120 minutes, with goalkeeper Mohamed Abooja the hero after saving twice.
