Irish NGO urges global collaboration in fighting Ebola

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - Behavioral change and working with communities to create awareness of Ebola symptoms are some of the best methods in curbing the spread of the disease, a civil society body said on Thursday.

Concern Worlwide, an Irish humanitarian agency, said the world should join hands in fighting the disease in DR Congo and Guinea, where Ebola has reared its ugly head again.

The NGO said in a press statement that the government of the DR Congo is doing what they can to control the outbreak, which had been declared over last June.

However the world is interconnected and the outbreak in DR Congo and Guinea are not localised health emergency.

“The past year has demonstrated just how interconnected we are – there is no such thing as a localised health emergency anymore,” said Kirk Prichard, Vice President of Programmes, Concern Worldwide.

“At Concern, we know from experience we have to work collaboratively with communities to create awareness of Ebola symptoms and prevent stigma in order to stop the spread,” he said.
