US report raises concerns over Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics preparations

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) – An internal report by the American Gymnastics Federation has raised concerns over the organization of the upcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, according to media reports.

The report, cited by the Senegalese newspaper Les Échos on Thursday, is based on an inspection mission conducted by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

Experts dispatched to Senegal reportedly identified “major shortcomings affecting safety and reception conditions,” particularly regarding infrastructure intended for the competition.

According to the report, some of the existing facilities do not meet the standards expected for high-level competition, raising concerns over the welfare and preparation conditions of young athletes.

The report added that gymnastics was not the only sport expressing reservations, as other American sports federations ``were also reportedly considering withdrawing from the event over similar concerns.

The newspaper said US sports authorities now face growing pressure to reconsider participation in the Games, citing what they described as “a situation far from ideal”.

The possible withdrawal of American teams would represent a significant challenge for Senegal, which is preparing to host the first Olympic event to be staged on African soil.
