Head of Libya's eastern-based army and Italian security delegation discuss fight against terrorism, irregular immigration

Benghazi, Libya (PANA) - Commander-in-Chief of the aastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA), Marshal Khalifa Haftar, on Wednesday met with an -level Italian security delegation with their discussions focusing on enhancing counter-terrorism cooperation, irregular immigration and drug trafficking networks.

The meeting in Benghazi brought together an Italian delegation led by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and included the head of the Italian intelligence services, Giovanni Carvelli according to a statement from the General Command of the Army.

They also discussed mechanisms for strengthening coordination on security issues of common interest, including the fight against terrorism, the control of irregular immigration and the fight against human trafficking and drug trafficking networks, thus contributing to strengthening security and stability at regional and international levels.

The Italian Minister expressed Rome’s gratitude to Marshal Haftar for his role in maintaining security and stability in Libya, reaffirming the commitment of the Italian government to continue joint coordination in the interest of both countries.

For his part, Marshal Haftar stressed the depth of bilateral relations between Libya and Italy, based on mutual respect and common interests.
