Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) - Saad Mubarak Al Naimi, Ambassador of Qatar to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU has paid a courtesy call on Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), with their discussions focusing on strategic partnership between the AU and Qatar.
A press release by the AU said discussions explored avenues to further institutionalise cooperation, broadening engagement beyond peace and security to include media, investment, and other priority sectors aligned with Africa’s development aspirations.
It said the AUC Chairperson commended Qatar’s constructive diplomatic engagement and support to mediation efforts on the continent, particularly in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as its sustained contribution to advancing peace and stability in Africa.
Mr. Youssouf further expressed appreciation for Qatar’s commitment to supporting the African Union Mission in Somalia, including efforts to help address critical funding gaps and ensure operational continuity.
The press release said Ambassador Al Naimi acknowledged the Chairperson’s leadership in strengthening the AU’s global agency and voice within the multilateral system.
