Libyan Council President participates in special meeting of African leaders on climate change adaptation

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, has participated by videoconference in the special meeting of African leaders on adaptation to climate change.

This was at the invitation of the President of Kenya, William Samwe Ruto, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).

The meeting is against a backdrop of worsening climate change impacts, persistent geopolitical instability and limited progress made last year at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, said, a statement on Monday from the Press Office of the President of the Libyan Council.

It said the meeting aimed to examine the prospects for adapting to climate change in light of development needs and constraints on climate finance, and to explore high-impact avenues to support resilient growth.

The meeting also built on the COP30 Climate Action Agenda – the renewed framework to accelerate action, which was agreed in Belém – while seeking funding commitments for the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Programme (AAAP 2.0), which was launched on the margins of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
