Zambia records 208 new COVID-19 cases

 

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – Zambia has continued recording high numbers of COVID-19 cases from northern border town of Nakonde between Zambia and Tanzania, where 196 new cases have been recorded from the total of 208 new cases recorded on Thursday.

 

Zambia’s Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya explained that the new cases were from the mass screening conducted in the capital, Lusaka, as well as Nakonde, and other parts of the country over a period of time.

 

Chilufya disclosed that 196 cases were from Nakonde while 12 involved truck drivers of various nationalities who entered the country through the southern Chirundu border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

 

The minister who spoke during the routine update on COVID-19 in Lusaka on Thursday, said the country conducted 903 tests in the last 24 hours.

 

According to Chilufya, the country now has a cumulative total of 654 cases with seven deaths and 134 recoveries as well as 523 cases that are active in various isolation centres.
