World leaders pay glowing tribute to Kofi Annan, an African hero

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA)  -  Former UN Secretary- General Kofi Annan Friday received glowing tribute at the leadership ceremony of the 12th edition of the Ibrahim Governance Week-end (IGW) hosted in the Ivorian economic capital.

The series of tribute to the life and work of the Ghanaian and former UN boss, who died on 18 August 2018, began with that of deputy UN Secretary-General Amina Mohammed who said Annan was the best personality at the good time as UN Secretary General (1997-2006).

She praised the values of courage and generosity of an African champion who took solutions and hope.

Kodjo Annan, his son, stressed his attachment to integrity, dignity and excellence and his fight with passion for justice.

Dr Mo Ibrahim, founder and chairman of the said foundation, described Annan as a great figure of the continent and praised his commitment for peace, democracy and justice.

Ivorian president Alassane Ouattara recalled his sense of negotiation and exceptional contribution to peace and security in the world.

President Ouattara stressed the participation of Annan in the return of peace in Côte d’Ivoire, saying “Kofi Annan gave the United Nations its current prestige as everlasting actor and who will remain a light and model for future generations”.

Kofi Annan, winner of the Peace Nobel Prize, was engaged in the promotion of several causes within several foundations and organisations.

He presided over the committee of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation prize from 2007 to 2011.
