WC Qualifier: Angola beat Gambia 1-0

Banjul, Gambia (PANA)  -  Visiting  Palancas Negras of Angola  Friday defeated  the Scorpions of The Gambia  1-0 in their World Cup qualification round played here.

Angolan Wilson Castro scored the lone goal in the 35th minute of the game at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. The Gambian side had several goal scoring opportunities but failed to convert them.

In the 53rd minute of the game, the Scorpions missed a clear goal opportunity that could have been converted into a fine equaliser.

Gambian fans started throwing stones at police paramilitary officers on duty at the fully-packed stadium immediately after the final whistle.

The Scorpions will travel to Rwanda tonight for a training camp before meeting the Palancas Negras again next Monday for the second-leg.

They now require to score two goals to be able to secure a qualification berth to the next round.
