Vaccination rate estimated at 95 per cent in Rwanda

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - Rwanda maintains an estimated immunization rate of 95 pc, as part of its national immunization campaign, the director general of the biomedical centre, Dr. Jeannine Condo, said on Tuesday.

Rwanda's immunization programme, which has been supported technically and financially since 2014 by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), includes vaccines against hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, measles, rubella, pneumonia and rotavirus-induced diarrhea.

In addition, Rwanda has long been the carrying out vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and Haemophilus influenzae type b.

To date, the estimated population of 12 million in Rwanda have access to the 11 vaccines recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for routine immunization.
