UNICEF launches national immunization campaign in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Saturday launched a one-week national immunization campaign in Libya, with the aim to immunize about 2,750,000 children, aged under 15 years, against measles, rubella and polio.

In addition to vaccines, the children will be given doses of vitamin A, the UNICEF said in a tweet.

The immunization campaign is organized in collaboration with the Libyan National Disease Control Centre.

According to reports, the seven years of insecurity in Libya (since 2011), have resulted in the deterioration of medical facilities, equipment and infrastructure as well as a lack of staff.

Diseases like polio which have been eradicated in the country in the 2000s, are now back attacking citizens.
