Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The UN has urged Sudanese parties, currently engaged in peace talks in Juba, South Sudan, to shun vested interest and participate with “goodwill and determination” for reaching peace in their country.

A spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, said the Secretary-General “welcomes the start of peace talks today between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North Abdelaziz al Hilo faction, mediated by South Sudan in Juba."

The UN official has, according to the release, reiterated the importance of the representation and participation of women at all levels of the peace process.

“The Secretary-General urges all stakeholders to demonstrate goodwill and determination to achieve a comprehensive peace in the interest of Sudan and the Sudanese people,” the UN statement said.
