UN mission to hold conference on the media's role in Libya's conflict

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The United Nations Support Mission  in Libya (UNSMIL) is holding a webinar for Libyan media professionals on the role of the media in conflict to teach them how to distinguish truth from hype.

The media have the power to amplify and defuse conflicts by shaping public opinion, directing narratives and influencing global perceptions, UNSMIL said in a publication on Monday, inviting Libyan media professionals to this meeting to learn how to distinguish truth from media hype.

According to the same source, the webinar will be led by Dr. Mohammed Wissam Amer, Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge and Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Languages at the University of Gaza.

The event, which will take place next Thursday at 14:00 local time (12:00 GMT), is part of UNSMIL's "Baseera" professional development programme for Libyan media professionals.

“If you are a journalist, media student, media teacher, fact checker or influencer on social networks, register to attend this and other Baseera events via the following link: - https://ow.ly/S9wz50Wsk4e,” UNSMIL pointed out in its publication.
