UN coordinator, Burkinabe Security minister meet

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) – The Burkinabe minister of Security, Ousséni Compaoré, on Tuesday received a delegation led by the coordinator of the UN system in Burkina Faso, Metsi Makhetha, official sources said.

According to a statement issued by the Burkinabe ministry of Security, Makhetha said that the talks behind closed doors followed the commitment made by the UN Secretary general to President Rock Marc Christian Kabore.

‘’The objective of the visit is first to see to what extent the UN can assist Burkina Faso in the security domain which requires that we undertake and intensify action, while creating the conditions to protect populations and create access for actors,’’ she said in the document.

The second point, according to the UN coordinator, is to enquire about the priorities of the new government and that basis see how the UN can assist the Burkinabe government to move forward.

She added that the visit is also aimed at coordinating actions with the Burkinabe authorities to provide the populations with  basic social services, create opportunities to promote the country’s economy so as to establish social peace and better living condition.

Burkinabe security situation has significantly deteriorated since 2015 with the recurrence of terrorist attacks, and also the rise in intercommunal conflicts.

On Monday, Prime Minister Christophe Marie Joseph Dabiré  said in Parliament that ‘’facing this barbarism of another area, there must be sacred union from all Burkinabes’’ and insisted that effors must be made to deal with terrorism".
