Two new Ebola confirmed cases reported in Northeastern DRC

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA)  -  Two new confirmed cases of the Ebola virus disease were reported Tuesday in the health zone of Beni, North-Kivu region, in northeastern DR Congo, an official source said here Wednesday.

This takes the number of cases to 3,416, including 3,297 confirmed and 119 probable since the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic on 1 August 2018 in that part of the country, the daily bulletin of the national multisectoral committee of the response to the Ebola virus obtained by PANA here said.

No new death was recorded among the confirmed cases in the Ebola treatment centers (ETC) or outside the health centers.

However, two patients were treated and got out of the ETC of Katwa in North-Kivu.

Since the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic, there are altogether 2,238 deaths, including 2,118 deaths of confirmed cases and 119 deaths of probable cases and 1,138 treated patients.

Presently, 533 suspected cases are being investigated.

According to the same sources, 6,317 people were vaccinated with the second vaccine Ad26.ZEBOV/MVA-BN-Filo (Johnson & Johnson) in the health zones of Karisimbi in Goma.

The DRC has already vaccinated 270,877 people with the rVSV-ZEBOV vaccine.

Among the vaccinated persons are health care providers, contacts and contacts of contacts of patients.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, the accumulation of controlled travels (temperature taking) at the health check points, up to 18 January 2020, is at 140,563,910. To date, 109 entry and health check points have been established in the North-Kivu and Ituri provinces to protect the big cities of the country and avoid the spread of the epidemic to neighbouring countries.
