Two bullet-riddled bodies found in northern Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Two dead bodies, riddled with bullets, were discovered Tuesday in the bush on the Kaya-Barsalogho road, about 100 km north of Ouagadougou, where the security situation has deteriorated significantly recently.

"The two bodies found were in a state of decomposition," a security source told PANA, adding that the gendarmerie had opened investigations.

Burkina Faso, which has been facing an upsurge in terrorist attacks since 2015, has increased its number of large-scale operations against terrorists in the north and east of the country since the beginning of 2019.

Kidnappings are frequent in the north and Sahel of Burkina Faso, where terrorist attacks began before spreading to other parts of the country.

Since Sunday, a priest was kidnapped by armed men in Djibo in the far north of Burkina Faso.

Fourteen of Burkina Faso's 45 provinces have been under a state of emergency since the end of 2018.

On Monday, the security ministry published a list of 247 people wanted "for participation in a terrorist activity".
