Tunisian president Saied and Libyan PM Al-Sarraj discuss developments in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - The latest developments in Libya were the focus of a telephone conversation on Tuesday between Tunisian President Kais Saied and the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Sarraj, a statement from the Tunisian presidency said.

President Saied reiterated that Tunisia remains in favour of international legality and the need for an intra-Libyan solution, which reflects the will of the Libyan people, because they have the right to determine their future without outside interference, the statement added.

It gave no further details about the conversation between the two leaders.

The political and military situation in Libya in recent weeks has been the main topic of local and international discussions as forces loyal to GNA have made significant gains in the war in the west, virtually freeing the stranglehold that the Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Khalifa Haftar had on Tripoli for since 4 April last year.

They have retaken a series of cities and recaptured territory from LNA forces who have been retreating from several fronts.

The latest fighting has also exposed the deep involvement of several countries in the never-ending Libyan crisis, especially Russia and United Arab Emirates, after long-time strongman Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in 2011.
