Tunisian political parties warn against deployment of Daech fighters in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA)   - The leader of the Project for Tunisia movement, Mohsein Marzouk, Tuesday warned against a “Turkish plan aiming to send Daech fighters from Syria to the Libyan capital, Tripoli”.

In a press statement issued here and reaching PANA, Maezouk said "it is presently reported that 1,000 fighters gathered at Idleeb, stronghold of the terrorists in Syria, are used by Turkey in its military deployment planned in Tripoli", calling Tunisian President Kais Saied to "take actions immediately".

“If this dangerous approach is confirmed, Tunisia must withdraw its recognition of the legitimacy of the government of Sarraj al-Fayez, head of the Libyan government of national accord recognized by the international community and call Turkey to give clarifications on that approach which represents serious danger for the Tunisian security,” he added.

Marzouk said the Tunisian ministry of foreign affairs refused to give authorization to the minister of foreign affairs of the Libyan provisional government close to Marshall Khalifa Haftar to hold a news conference in Tunis.

The Tunisian social party expressed its refusal of any “aggression against the Libyan fellow people, the attempts to involve Tunisia in the policy of rapprochement and the use of the Tunisian territory to sap Libya’s sovereignty", and reaffirmed its support to the Libyan people in these decisive moments.

In a communiqué issued Tuesday at the closing of the central committee, the Tunisian socialist party said that "the situation in the region put a war linger on the Libyan soil that will be the work of foreign forces who want to impose their influence to exploit Libya’s riches".

"The visit of the Turkish president Erdogan in our company accompanied by the Turkish ministers of defence and foreign affairs, as well as the chief of the intelligence services, aims to involve Tunisia in a coalition that supports Sarraj’s government within the framework of the Turkey-Qatar line," added the communiqué.

Tunisia is concerned with the development of the situation in neighbouring Libya, marked by the alert of the security units and the army positioned all along the border with Libya.

On Monday, the Tunisian presidency announced the extension of the state of emergency for a month all across the Tunisian territory.
