Tunisian police search home of son-in-law of president of Ennahdha party

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian security forces on Thursday searched the home of Abdelaziz Daghsni, president of the Ennahdha Shura Regional Council and son-in-law of the Islamist movement's president, Rached Ghannouchi.

He is suspected of involvement in criminal acts related to the case of the "secret apparatus" of Ennahdha, a pro-Muslim brotherhood.

Tunisia's interior ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the security forces on 7 August went to the home of Daghsni's wife in Ariana in order to summon him to a hearing before a judge in a criminal case". This was on the orders of the public prosecutor's office and during the administrative working hours.

The Defence Committee of opposition leftist leaders Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi, who were assassinated in 2013 during the Troika's rule, led by Ennehdha, accused Mr. Daghsni of possessing documents proving the Islamist movement's involvement in the killings.

The Defence Committee made revelations at a press conference on 2 October 2018 about the circumstances of the killing of the two left-wing activists by pointing the finger at the Ennahdha party. At the time, he had revealed the existence of Ennahdha's secret device, which is believed to be behind the killings.

On the basis of these accusations, the Tunisian Prosecutor General's Office ordered an investigation into the revelations made at the press conference, the spokesperson of the trial court and the justice centre for the fight against terrorism revealed on 3 December 2018.

The late Tunisian President Béji Caïd Essebsi, for his part, had convened a meeting of the National Security Council on 11 March, which had taken the necessary measures to clarify the real reasons behind these political assassinations in the country since 2011, claiming that the secret apparatus of the Ennehdha movement has become a threat to Tunisian national security.
