Tunisian President sues for political solution in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian President Béji caïd Essebsi, has emphasized the need "for Libyans to find themselves a political solution to the crisis in Libya under the auspices of the United Nations".

The Tunisian head of State expressed this feeling on Wednesday during a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Tunis, with the first vice-president of the presidential council of the Libyan government of national accord, Ahmed Miitig.

At the meeting, the Tunisian President reaffirmed Tunisia's position which is against the military escalation in Libya and for the immediate cessation of the fighting.

He also called on all actors in the Libyan crisis to show restraint, to put the nation's interests above all other interests and to spare the Libyan people from more loss and suffering.

The meeting between the statesmen addressed the latest developments in Libya and its consequences on the Libyan people, on Tunisia and on all the countries of the region.

The meeting also referred to "the efforts made to halt military operations and pave the way for dialogue and negotiation in order to initiate the political operation between the various Libyan actors under the auspices of the United Nations", a communiqué from the Tunisian presidency issued at the end of the meeting, said.
