Tunisian President misses AU Summit for medical reason

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian President Kaïs Saied will not attend the 33rd African Union (AU) Summit scheduled for February 9-10 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for medical reasons.

According to a statement from the Tunisian Presidency, the head of state suffers from acute throat inflammation requiring a total rest of four days on the prescription of his personal doctor.

Tunisia will be represented at the Summit  by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Bachtobji.

Tunisia, a founding member of the continental organization, assumes this year the presidency of the League of Arab States and sits, with Niger, on the Security Council of the UN as a non-permanent member.
