Tunisian President Kaïs Saied to take part in next AU summit

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA)  - Tunisian President Kaïs Saied will take part in proceedings of the 33rd session of the conference of African Union heads of state and government to be held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on 8-9 February, a communiqué issued by the Tunisian presidency said.

This will be the first meeting of this scale to be attended by the new Tunisian president since his election in October, with a large majority of 72 percent of votes.

Fervent defender of Tunisia’s African Unity, Saied has always pleaded on every occasion for the strengthening of relations between his country and the rest of the continent.

The summit, to be held under the theme “Silencing the Guns and Strengthening the Conditions Appropriate for Africa’s Development”, will examine the reforms of the Pan-African organization institutions and the African continental free-trade area (AfCFTA).

It will also look at the issues of security and peace in Africa, added the communiqué.

In line with the summit, the Tunisian president will hold meetings with a certain number of heads of state and governments, as well as with senior officials of international and regional organizations in Addis Ababa.
