Tunisian FM reiterates call for cessation of fighting in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian foreign affairs minister, Khemaies Jhinaoui, on Thursday reiterated, in a telephone contact with the commander of the Libyan national army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, his call for an immediate ceasefire in Libya.

According to a statement issued on Friday by his department, Mr Jhinaoui insisted on the need to finalize, in a very short time, the current political process under the auspices of the United Nations, believing that the Libyan crisis can only be resolved by dialogue and negotiation.

He also insisted on the need to find a common ground between the various protagonists in the fighting in Tripoli and in several other parts of the country, in order to establish mechanisms to find a solution to the disputes between Libyans, the statement added.

Marshal Haftar affirmed his willingness to finish the military operation as soon as possible in several Libyan  regions, noting that his forces are fighting illegal armed groups that control many areas in Tripoli and want to stop the bloodshed of Libyan civilians, the statement stressed.

Tunisia is currently facing a climate of concern as a result of clashes in the vicinity of the Libyan capital.

Because of these clashes in Libya, the Tunisian authorities have recently extended the State of emergency throughout the Tunisian territory.

The government, political parties and all Tunisians who follow the situation in Libya and Algeria are concerned about the consequences of these events on the situation at the Tunisian borders.
