Tunisian Crisis: President Saïed appoints security adviser to head Interior Ministry

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed on Thursday named the director of the General Administration of Presidential Security, Ridha Gharsallaoui, to head the Interior Ministry, the presidency announced.

Mr. Gharsalaoui succeeds the dismissed Tunisian Prime Minister, Hichem Mechichi, who was heading the Interior Ministry.

The new Interior Minister has been sworn in by the Head of State.

Mr Gharsellaoui was assigned in 1995 to the General Administration of Presidential Security and Official Personalities, with the rank of police governor.

Throughout his career, he has held many positions and received training inside and outside the country in his specialised areas of investigation and fight against terrorism, and logistical support.

The Tunisian President took several decisions last Sunday, including the dismissal of the Prime Minister and the suspension of the Parliament for 30 days.
