Tunisia underlines increasing interest for African integration

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisia Monday reaffirmed its interest for African integration which represents a complementary and progressive vision for the continental organization, official sources said here.

According to the sources, the vision focuses on "African citizenship, making Africans efficient force in the world".

This was contained in a statement issued by the Tunisian ministry of foreign affairs on the eve of the celebration on Tuesday by African countries of the African Day for Integration.

The day also coincides with the first anniversary of the launching of the African continental free-trade area established by "the Niamey declaration" which aims to strengthen the competitiveness of African markets and products and the diversification of intra-African trade.

The Tunisian ministry of foreign affairs reaffirmed Tunisia’s availability to contribute to make efficient the African integration process.

This, the ministry says, represents the best means to achieve the global and durable development of the continent thanks to the increase in investment and the creation of jobs for African youths in accordance with the aspirations and expectations of African peoples.

Tunisia however praised the role of the African Union (AU) in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The statement indicated that the pandemic highlighted "the precariousness of the economies of several African countries", which makes indispensable "the adoption of inclusive and complementary strategy to help governments overcome this period of economic recession".
