Tunisia seizes arms from Turkey destined to Libya - Interior Ministry

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian authorities have seized a large quantity of weapons from Turkey bound for Libya, Tunisian Interior Ministry spokesman Khaled Laouini announced on Wednesday.

The weapons which passed through Tataouine region were seized in the southern Medenine region.

In a press statement, Mr. Laouini clarified that gangs of traffickers operating in southern Tunisia have collaborated with parties whose identity he has not specified to smuggle the shipment of seized weapons.
 
Tunisia is on a security alert due to the deteriorating security situation in Libya, prompting the security and military authorities to take emergency measures along the common border to prevent the consequences of the situation in Libya.


Tunisian President Kais Saied chaired a meeting of the National Security Council on Tuesday to examine the situation in Libya,  according to the Tunisian Presidency website.
 
The Council considered the necessary measures to be taken at the national level.

 

Also, the Council examined the need to coordinate with Western capitals affected by the situation in Libya and with the European Union.
