Tunisia's crime rate down by 23 percent, says interior ministry
Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisia's crime rate fell by 23 percent last March compared to the same month last year, Tunisian interior ministry spokesperson Khaled Lahyouni said on Wednesday.
A decrease of 3,389 crimes was recorded between March 2019 and March 2020, Lahyouni said, adding that despite the curfew and total containment, due to the coronavirus and the exceptional mobilization to enforce preventive measures, the police and National Guard continue to fight crime at the same time.
The fight against crime remains a priority for all security units, he said.
The security forces are working to enforce containment measures and curfew on the one hand and to combat terrorism on the other hand.
He cited last week's elimination of two suspected terrorists and the dismantling of cells planning to carry out attacks.
