Tunisia rejects Turkey's request for transit of its forces to Libya

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisia has turned down Turkey's request for its forces to transit through a to Libya, the  first adviser to the Tunisian president in charge of information and communication, Rachida Ennaïfer announced on Tuesday.

 


"Turkish President Reccep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan asked his Tunisian counterpart Kais Saied that Tunisia support Turkey for the transportation of equipment and allow Turkish forces to transit through Tunisia," said Ennaïfer in a press statement, adding that the Turkish request was made during Mr. Erdogan's recent visit to Tunisia.
 


Erdogan asked for the use of Tunisian territory and air and sea space for military intervention in Libya, said Ennaïfer, adding  that President Kais Saied has rejected the request.

 
According to her, "Mr. Erdogan was embarrassed by the results of the talks which led to the refusal to use Tunisia, or its air and maritime spaces for Turkish military intervention in Libya".
 
Several political parties and trade union and civil society organizations strongly protested the Turkish president's visit to Tunisia and asked the Tunisian president to give the Tunisian people the true version of the results of his meeting with Mr. Erdogan, affirming their total refusal of a Turkish military intervention in Libya.
