Tunisia is not party to any coalition in favour of Libya - Tunisian presidency

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisia will not be a member of any coalition and will never accept that a portion of its territory is under the tutelage of a sovereignty other than that of Tunisia, the Presidency of the Republic affirmed on Thursday.

It added that successive false declarations and interpretations, since Wednesday, were the result of misunderstandings or given by malicious sources and motivated by the will to harm.

"If a contrary position is disseminated by Tunisia or by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this is only the responsibility of the one who disseminated it," noted the presidency.

"The Tunisian president puts above all the sovereignty, independence and free decision of Tunisia and this cannot be the subject of haggling or debate," underlined the Tunisian presidency, adding that Tunisia does not have and will never intend to join a coalition.

The communications officer of the Presidency of the Republic, Rachida Ennaïfer, on Thursday denied the agreement of Tunisian President Kais Saied with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to support the Government of National Accord.

It said that the information on the agreement of the Tunisian authorities allowing Turkish military aircraft to conduct operations from Tunisian territory to support the government of Fayez Sarraj was unfounded.

For the Tunisian presidency, the Turkish side lacked accuracy in the dissemination of information on the meeting between the two heads of state which was an opportunity for Turkey to support the initiative of the Tunisian President for peace in Libya, indicating that President Saied did not announce during this meeting his alignment in favor of a party in conflict in Libya at the expense of another.

Mrs. Ennaïfer reacted to announcements  of the Turkish president who affirmed to have agreed with the Tunisian president on supporting the government of Tripoli headed by Sarraj.

The Turkish president said on Thursday that his country and Tunisia agreed to support the government of Fayez Sarraj.

The Turkish president reaffirmed the readiness of his country to send troops to Libya at the request of the Libyan government of national accord, which is recognized by the international community.
