Tunisia hosts meeting on the social contract in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - A total of 38 Libyan personalities representing various political, social and independent bodies, recently took part in a consultation session focused on the theme "making the social contract a success" as an important factor in achieving social and political stability and considered as a social reference to support the resolution of the political crisis in Libya.

This session, held in Tunis and organized by the "Peace Creators Initiative-Libya" team, looked at the latest developments in the Libyan crisis and examined how far the "social contract" can contribute to solve the crisis, said the Libyan online newspaper, "Al-Wassat", in its Wednesday edition.

The speakers all emphasized the importance of the "social contract" as a source for the Constitution in relations between members of society and to overcome social and regional differences and sensitivities, so as to change the document to make it "a national convention".

According to the member of the "peace creators initiative-Libya", Masaab Qaid, the document presented to the participants was the subject of work carried out by the team for three years through working sessions which lasted nearly 800 hours to which 1,000 personalities representing the different social categories of the country took part.

The participants were guided by a single concern about "the future of Libya", he said, adding that the Tunis meeting was an opportunity to discuss the process of the Libyan crisis and to provide contributions to its solution and thus ensure a transition to create the future of Libya with the participation of all Libyans.

The participants also discussed the situation related to the clashes that have been going on for six months in the vicinity of Tripoli, and the international meeting expected to discuss the Libyan crisis. The majority of speakers emphasized the need to stop the bloodshed and work towards a Libyan vision to find a solution to the crisis and lay the foundation for achieving security and stability in the country, necessary for the building of a new state in Libya.

Speakers called for Libya's permanent presence in international meetings on the Libyan crisis, including the Berlin conference to be organized by the German government, in the presence of various influential regional and international forces in Libya.

In this regard, the German Ambassador to Libya, Christian Buck, took part in a part of the Tunis session and gave a general overview of the Berlin conference and the points that will be discussed, the most significant of which are the ceasefire, the holding of a meeting in Libya, the ban on the introduction of weapons into Libya and the need to reach an international consensus on the situation.
