Tunisia expresses concern about situation in Mali

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) -  The Tunisian Foreign ministry said here Friday his country "is following with concern the developments in the Republic of Mali”.

It said in a statement that Tunisia “rejects any change of government outside the constitutional framework" in accordance with the provisions of the African Charter on Democracy.

It urged all parties and forces in Mali "to respect the constitutional order, to give priority to dialogue and to defend the supreme interest of their country in order to quickly emerge from this crisis and to achieve national cohesion which alone can spare the country the consequences of instability, especially in these difficult conditions in the region".

Tunisia reiterated its full support for African and international efforts to restore stability to Mali, the statement added.

Malian soldiers on 18 August overthrew the regime of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, who was arrested along with his prime minister and several other members of his government.
