Tunisia consulting on possible Libya meeting in Tunis

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisia is currently holding consultations for a meeting of foreign ministers of Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt in Tunis on the situation in Libya, so says a statement from the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting aims to coordinate efforts of the three countries to put an end to the unrest in Libya and for the resumption of political negotiations, adds the statement, which highlights that the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Khemaies Jhinaoui, continues contacts and consultations with the various regional and international parties to accelerate the end of military clashes in Libya.

Since the outbreak of clashes in several parts of Libya on 4 April, Tunisia has intensified contacts with the various Libyan actors to encourage them to reach a ceasefire and immediately stop the war.

The area around Tripoli has been experiencing violent fighting between the Libyan national army and the forces of the government of national unity for the past two weeks.

Libya continues to suffer from more than eight years of ongoing conflict that has left thousands dead and wounded, according to a UN report.

Some 820,000 people, including 250,000 children, are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
