Tunisia condemns terrorist attacks on two mosques in New Zealand

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - The Tunisian foreign ministry has strongly condemned what it termed "the cowardly attacks" on two mosques in New Zealand on Friday, that left many people dead or wounded, said a statement copied to PANA.

According to the statement, Tunisia extends its condolences to the families of the victims, wishes a speedy recovery to the injured and expresses Tunisia's solidarity with the New Zealand authorities.

“Tunisia proclaims its absolute rejection of places of worship and innocent people of any nationality or religion as targets of such acts," the statement said, adding: "This despicable crime shows once again that terrorism has no colour, no religion, no moral or geographical boundaries."

Tunis called on "all components of the international community to increase coordination and cooperation to establish mechanisms to combat all forms of extremism, terrorism, hatred and fanaticism".

A video filmed and posted on social networks showed the perpetrator, a 28-year-old Australian, heavily armed, entering two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, and shooting at close range at the worshippers who were performing the Friday prayer, killing 50 people and injuring 20 others.

In a text he published, the terrorist justified his act by his hatred against Muslims and immigrants.
