Tunisia calls for immediate end of clashes in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) – Tunisia on Monday appealed for "immediate end of the fighting and bloodshed’’ in Libya following the  military escalation in the outskirts of the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

In a statement on the situation, the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined "the priority for all factions to engage in easing tension, show restraint and dialogue in a bid to save the Libyan  nation from suffering and destruction."

"There is no military solution to the Libyan crisis’’, said Tunis, urging opposing sides to abide by the UN-backed political process and establish all conditions for the success of the national inclusive conference due to hold 14-16 April, which represents "an essential step to reach a consensual peaceful solution that will help Libya regain stability and avoid division of the Libyan people."

Tunisia is following with great concern the deterioration of the security in neighbouring Libya with which it shares a 400 km long border in the southeast.

During the popular uprising that ousted the former Mouamar Gaddafi regime in 2011, more than one million Libyans crossed the  border as they fled the clashes between rival militias.
