Tunisia calls for immediate end of violence in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) – Tunisia has on Monday appealed for an ‘’immediate end to the fighting and bloodshed’’ in Libya, following the ‘’serious military escalation’’ underway on the outskirts of the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

In a communiqué, the Tunisian ministry of foreign affairs underlined the need for all parties to engage in easing tension, show restraint and embrace dialogue in a bid to preserve the Libyan nation from suffering and clashes’’.

‘’There is no military solution to the Libyan crisis’’, said Tunis who urged the Libyan protagonists to preserve the UN-backed political process and establish all conditions for the success of the national inclusive conference scheduled for 14-16 April, which represents ‘’essential steps to reach consensual peaceful solution that will help Libya return to stability."

Tunisia is following ‘’with huge concern’’ the deterioration of the security crisis in neighbouring Libya with whom it shares a 400-km-long border in the southeast.

In 2011, during the popular uprising that ousted the Mouamar Gaddafi regime, more than one million Libyans crossed the Tunisian border fleeing the armed fighting between rival militias.
