Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - The Tunisian capital will host the second forum on gender equity from 24-26 April, organized by the Tunisian government, UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The first such forum was held in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2018, according to an official source.

The Tunis forum is taking place one year before the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995.

The Forum also takes place before the 20th anniversary of the adoption by the Security Council of the resolution on "women, security and peace" and prior to the presentation of the first report on sustainable international development at the autumn summit of the UN Member States, focused on the sustainable development goals.

Women, peace, security, innovation and technology are among the issues to be discussed in Tunis, which will also address ways in which women's role in development and good governance can be strengthened, as well as the consecration of the principle of gender equity as a fundamental condition for the representation of women in governments, bodies and local structures.

It will address other topics, including new directions on innovation and technology intended for strengthening women's economic skills.

More than 500 personalities, representing international organizations, women's networks and politically-active women from all over the world, are expected to attend the Forum.
