Tunis says ceasefire deal in Libya ‘fundamental pillar to wished political resolution’

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisia Friday welcomed the ceasefire deal agreed between delegations of the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army during the talks of the joint 5+5 military commission in Geneva, an official source said here.

The talks, sponsored by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), was described as a “decisive step towards the achievement of global and sustainable resolution”.

In a statement, the Tunisian ministry of foreign affairs welcomed the “positive spirit that prevailed during the meetings” and “the atmosphere of confidence that marked the talks between Libyan parties”.

The talks, it said, ended with this important accord which Tunis described as “successful in the sense that it represents a fundamental pillar to reach the wished political resolution”.

Tunisia expressed “its gratefulness to the efforts made by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to accompany the Libyan parties for the success of the peaceful process leading to the resolution of the crisis”, saying it was “entirely confident that the ceasefire agreement will benefit from the full support of the international community”.

The statement reaffirmed “the total availability of Tunisia to ensure better conditions for the success of the forum of the Libyan political dialogue the country will host in early November in an effort to reach and achieve security, peace and lasting stability in fellow Libya”.
