Tragedy mars world's biggest bicycle race in South Africa

Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) – Organisers of the Cape Town Cycle Tour – the largest bicycle race in the world – have confirmed the deaths of two participants.

The first rider was killed when he lost control of his bike and collided with other cysclists shortly after the start while the second suffered a fatal heart attack later in the race.

Thirty-five thousand people took part in the event which was cancelled last year due to high winds.

The race was won by Nolan Hoffman (Team BCX) who out-sprinted Sam Gaze (Investec-Songo-Specialized) to clinch his third title in a time of 2:37:30.
