Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The Malian government is about to ratify the treaty establishing the African Drug Agency, adopted by the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, on 11 February 2019 in Addis Ababa, an official source told PANA in Bamako.

The agency aims to strengthen initiatives aimed at harmonizing the regulation of medical products and improving the control of good manufacturing practices, coordinating the collection, management, storage and exchange of information on the quality and safety of medical products.

It also aims to promote cooperation and partnership between regional structures and national pharmaceutical regulatory authorities, to monitor the market for medicinal products through sampling in all Member States and to ensure the implementation of the African Union Model Law on the Regulation of Medical Products in the Member States.

According to the Malian government, the ratification of this treaty will allow Mali to benefit from the expertise of the African Drug Agency and to improve people's access to quality pharmaceutical products.
