Top prize for Press Freedom in Libya awarded to late Palestinian journalist Abu Akleh

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The top prize for press freedom in Libya, the Al-Saraya Al-Hamra, has been awarded to the late Palestinian journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed by Israeli soldiers last May.

The Higher Organising Committee of the celebration of "Tripoli, Arab Media Capital 2022' announced the award at a ceremony held in the Libyan capital on Saturday.

The Libyan Prime Minister Abdelhamid al-Dbaiba was present at the ceremony, a statement published on the government information platform "Hakomitna" said.

The award was received by the Palestinian Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rudaena.

Abu Akleh, a Palestinian journalist working as a reporter for the Qatari TV channel, Al Jazeera, was shot dead on 12 May 2022 by the Israeli army while she was covering the storming of the Jenin camp.

Earlier, the Libyan Prime Minister received ministers and senior media officials from the League of Arab States after their meeting as part of the closing ceremony of "Tripoli, Arab Media Capital 2022".
