Tokyo 2020: Kenya geared up for Olympic qualifiers

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - Lack of build up matches ahead of the forthcoming CAVB 2020 Tokyo Olympics Women's Volleyball Qualifiers in Cameroon will not dampen the Kenyan team's spirits.

Assistant coach Japheth Munala told PANA on that international friendly matches would have gone a long way in preparing the team for the event.

Speaking as the team, currently training in Nairobi, broke camp for Christmas holidays, Munala said Kenya will give its best in Cameroon.

The team resumes training on December 27, jetting out to Cameroon on January 2.

Kenya  has made two appearances in the Olympics--Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.

The five-nation event is set for January 5-9. The winner will represent Africa at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in July.

The five teams named by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) are-hosts Cameroon, Botswana, Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria.

Cameroon are the reigning African Champions, while Kenya won the 2019 African Games gold in Rabat, Morocco in September.
