Three Ivorian soldiers killed in mine explosion on border with Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Three Ivorian soldiers were killed and four others wounded on Saturday in a mine explosion in an attack against the defence and security forces on the border with Burkina Faso, the general staff of the Ivorian armed forces announced in a statement.

It said at about 1900 GMT, a reconnaissance patrol of the Armed Forces of Côte d'Ivoire was attacked on the Tehini-Togolokaye axis bordering Burkina-Faso.

According to the press release, the soldiers were ambushed with the use of an improvised explosive device, which caused one of the vehicles to blow up. The detachment's response made it possible to secure the area and provide assistance to the injured.

Three people were killed and four others wounded, the statement said.

The attack came after last Thursday's inauguration of an international counter-terrorism academy in Côte d'Ivoire in partnership with France that was attended by the French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Cote d'Ivoire faces increasing attacks from jihadist groups based to the north in Mali and Burkina Faso.
