The Arab League hosts tripartite Libyan meeting in Cairo on Sunday
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has invited the chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Parliament), Aguila Saleh, and the President of the High Council of State, Mohamed Tekkala, to take part in a dialogue session to be held on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt, to facilitate intra-Libyan dialogue.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Arab League said that the dialogue session "aims to facilitate a intra-Libyan dialogue, in order to bring the points of view of the Libyan parties closer together".
The Secretary General's spokesperson, Jamal Rushdi, explained that this invitation "stems from a genuine sense of responsibility on the part of the Arab League towards this important Arab country, and at this particular time, and as an effort to bring Libya out of its long and persistent crisis, the burden and consequences of which have increased".
He underlined "the suffering of the Libyan people, who are now relying on their politicians to get out of this suffocating situation by neutralizing narrow interests and putting the country's best interests above all other considerations".
An initiative launched last November by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, to bring together the five main players in the country's official institutions to overcome disagreements over the electoral laws and outstanding political issues, has reached an impasse due to the preconditions set by the invitees to take part in the meeting.
This situation has led to a deadlock in the political process, exacerbating the crisis in the country and delaying the organization of legislative and presidential elections
