Sudanese security knocks down terrorist cell in Khartoum

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The Sudanese authorities say security units apprehended 11 terrorists related to Islamic State (ISIS) in a raid on Tuesday at their hideout in Khartoum, the national capital.

In a statement carried by the official media, the Sudanese General Intelligence Service (GIS) said four of the terrorists are still at large. Reports said they were cornered in an adjacent area from downtown Khartoum.

The authorities added that security units came under fire and five officers, including three non-commissioned officers, were killed in the shootout while another was wounded.

The GIS identified the suspects as non-Sudanese but stopped short of identifying their nationalities. It said they hired houses in a Khartoum suburb.

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council General Abdel Fattah Burhan and the Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdouk issued statements commending the way the security dealt with the suspects and their heroism. Both officials commended the role of GIS in safeguarding the country against imminent threats.

A security expert was on Wednesday quoted by an army newspaper as warning that this operation meant Sudan was now an enemy of ISIS.
