Sudanese government welcomes HRC resolution condemning the RSF Militia Violations in El Fasher

Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA)- The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs   has welcomed the UN Human Rights Council resolution that clearly condemned atrocities and grave violations committed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its allied groups in and around El Fasher.

The ministry, in a detailed statement, said these violations included ethnically motivated killings, torture, extrajudicial executions, arbitrary detention of civilians, forced recruitment, and the use of rape and other forms of sexual violence as weapons of war.

The statement issued on Friday shortly after the council concluded its session in Geneva, commended the resolution, considering it a strong affirmation of respect for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and a reaffirmation of unwavering solidarity with the Sudanese people.

The Ministry also welcomed the resolution's call for all parties and states to respect Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, and its rejection of any attempts to establish a parallel authority in areas controlled by the rebel militia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reiterated the Sudanese government's firm stance against attempts to include controversial mechanisms in this resolution, based on previous resolutions that lacked the state's consent.

The statement affirmed the Sudanese government's commitment to cooperating and coordinating with human rights mechanisms operating in the country, including the Country Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Specially Designated Expert on the situation of human rights in Sudan.

This cooperation, the statement stressed, aims to enable these mechanisms to fulfill their mandates, enhance the protection of human rights, ensure justice and redress for victims, and prevent impunity.

The Ministry emphasized that the Country Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is the only mechanism on the ground capable of monitoring and reporting on the atrocities committed by the militia in El Fasher, as well as the widespread violations that have affected other Sudanese cities and states, in coordination and integration with relevant national mechanisms.
