Sudanese Army declares comprehensive ceasefire

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - Sudanese Defence minister and Head of the Higher National Security Committee, Lt Gen Awad Ibin Aouf on Thursday declared a comprehensive ceasefire all over the country.

In his long awaited statement, the General said he expects armed movements still carrying guns to join the process.

He also announced the dissolution of the presidency, presidency  aides, the council of ministers, dissolve the parliament, allow the judiciary at all level to continue its work as usual.

The statement has appealed to those carrying arms and rebel movements to “join the homeland work with its sons.”

He said his government would maintain public life without exclusion of anyone, abuse or revenge against anyone or any private or public property, and would see to it that there would be “strict application of law and order, prevention of any sedition or any crime of any type”.

Aouf also ordered the “the immediate release of all political detainees as well as preparing the climate for to a peaceful power transition , rebuilding of political parties and conducting free and fair elections at the end of the transitional period. “
