Sudan will soon be removed from terror list - U.S. official

Khartoum, sudan  (PANA)- Sudan and the United States on Sunday exchanged optimistic remarks following a meeting that brought together U.S. officials responsible for combatting terrorism financing and Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdouk in Khartoum.

Following a meeting with visiting Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing, U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Prime Minister said the United States is a strategic partner for overcoming the current economic woes Khartoum is facing.

Dr. Hamdouk received a delegation from the U.S. Treasury led by Assistant Under-Secretary for Combating Terrorism, Marshall Billingslea.

In attendance was also Sudan’s Cabinet Affairs Minister, Omar Manis and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Omar Gammar Edeen.

Hamdouk reiterated the Transitional Government's keenness to realize just and comprehensive peace and improve the economic conditions within the country

The official Sudanese news agency reported that the visiting U.S. delegation said economic sanctions imposed on the Sudan were now revoked to the exception of those related to the Darfur peace.

It said the American official has told the Sudanese officials that lifting the name of the Sudan from the terrorism sponsoring list would come soon and that it was only “a matter of time.”
