Sudan: IDPs from Jebel Mara reach 110,000, agencies provide assistance

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The number of internally displaced persons fleeing the latest fighting in Darfur's Jebel Mara that began last January, have reached 110,273 with 95% of them (close to 105,000) taking refuge in North Darfur,

Some 4,000 of them are in Central Darfur and the remaining IDPs in South Darfur State, according to the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA).

OCHA said in a press release Thursday that those figures were verified by the International Migration Organization (IOM) and the Sudanese government's Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), adding that final verifications might differ from the reported figures.

It said that there are unconfirmed reports of an additional 80,000 IDPs in Central Darfur State as a result of the Jebel Mara fighting.

It said aid organizations continue to deliver humanitarian assistance to the IPs in accessible areas, mainly in North Darfur where, according to OCHA, by Sunday, March 13, more than 96,000 new IDPs received emergency food and other forms of assistance.
